Social Media Mining: An Introduction (Cambridge University Press, 2014) by Reza Zafarani, Mohammad Ali Abbasi, and Huan Liu is the lab’s textbook. It is used in 100+ courses across 30+ countries and has been translated into Chinese and Farsi. The full text and every lecture slide deck are free to use.

Data to Teach With

The exercises in the book work best against real data. Ours is on datasets.syr.edu — 19 social network datasets spanning 19M+ nodes and 169M+ edges across seven kinds of platforms. Code and data releases are on GitHub.
